The ASCE 38-02 Quality Framework

SUE categorizes underground data into 4 verified quality tiers.

  • Quality Level D: Basic historical utility records and schematic municipal sketches.
  • Quality Level C: Surface field surveys locating visible manhole covers, valve boxes, and utility poles.
  • Quality Level B: Surface geophysics using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and electromagnetic locators.
  • Quality Level A: Non-destructive vacuum potholing exposing utilities to measure exact 3D coordinates.
